I don’t have a problem with ‘found footage’ films. Yet, I’m not a huge fan of the ‘waving a hand held camera around to make things scarey’ (there are films that show nothing, but scared the shit out of me… and yet didn’t make me feel travel sick).

But as a premise it, in itself, doesn’t suck.

What I do have a problem with is characters in any film that are moronically stupid. ALL moronically stupid. Even the ones that are supposed to not be moronically stupid.

We are lost in the woods, and shit is getting ‘kin scarey. Lets throw away our best method of getting out of here (I’m talking about the map). And let none of us think ‘that’s a stupid idea… I’ll pick that up. It may be damp. But a damp map is better than…’ oh, sorry. I was trying to apply a small amount of logic to this largely farcical film.

Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of Blair Witch.

Maybe I just went into it expecting something else. Perhaps I too should watch it again.

But really, I don’t feel the urge. I could spend that time watching ‘Tucker and Dale…’ again.

5.9 is a decent rating!

This rating is pretty odd, though.

Why? Well, despite the good rating on IMDB there are literally ZERO reviews of the film – external or user reviews – on IMDB at all, which is super-weird considering it was released in October 2012 (according to IMDB)!

There are also literally zero reviews of the film on the internet, anywhere, as far as I can see…

Frustratingly the film isn’t available to buy on DVD or Blu Ray either (although the poster is available to buy on Amazon.com) so I can’t even order a copy!

20 people gave it 10 out of 10 on IMDB, suggesting they thought it was literally the perfect movie, so I presume it received a limited cinema release (unfortunately 15 people also gave it 1 star, so it divides audiences).

I can’t find any information on release schedule or where these people would’ve seen the film, so if you have anymore that’d be awesome!

The sequel got a 5.9/10 on imdb which means Carl Lindbergh learned from his mistakes so it looks way better than this.

I thought the guy was an idiot, but he didn’t deserve to die. It was so hard watching this movie, I got mad at their stupid decisions.. I also didn’t believe they were a real couple. The way they mentioned part of their lives and acted made their relationship seem unbalanced/not right to me.

But after talking to my boyfriend (we watched it together), we have to take into account that they are a “newlywed couple”. Perhaps they dated for a few months then got married. It could’ve been their honeymoon? Maybe they were still in the process of getting accustomed to each other.

The boyfriend also mentioned that she worked a lot. Maybe they lost connection and on this vacation, were picking back up where they left off and reconnecting.

Let your imagination run wild.

I watched this more than a week ago and I’m still angry. I think my biggest complaint was that although this film spent about as long as the original when it comes to establishing characters, I felt like I didn’t get to know any of them.

That, and the whole Carrie as Magneto thing. What was Pierce thinking?!

watched it last night and was so confused by the ending that i had to google it this morning…..
this review as svenrufus says, hits the proverbial nail…
was intrigued, loved toby jones, loved the sounds, and editing. but did not like the violence towards women and the fact i was waiting for a point to be made. the point never came. more style than substance in the end, and a shame, cos it had the potential to be really worth watching.
the reviewer mentioned ‘antichrist’ – very apt – another movie that tries to ‘shock’ the audience under the guise of ‘art’.
i don’t care about the genre or who is making a movie, i just want more movies like the completely amazing ‘pan’s labyrinth’ that ticks every box
and is an ultimately rewarding experience.

The Secret World is now ‘free to play’. The reason I stopped (the over the top subscription) is no longer an issue.

Keeps saying his name is Robert c Hurd my name is Tim. hurd. Grampa keeps tell me things. About her he says he’s seen her father a few times in SanFrancisco and. he knows things about her famoney Ou. Family lives in Minnesota someday it would be nice to meet Gale and her family. I enjoy reading about her life. And how she made it to be a producer. Timm

Wow… colour me surprised. Thanks for pointing this out!

Seen images of Javier Botet and he looks amazing – what a fantastic physical performer. Unfortunately the over-reliance of CGI for the floaty hair, facial stretching and frenetic movements means you literally can’t tell a person is acting underneath it.

In the review above I said “it could’ve been a decent mix of practical and CG effects” and I stand by this; the majority of audience members I talked to thought the ‘witch’ was CGI, so it’s a shame the overuse of computer generated effects eclipsed what was an excellent physical performance.

Was the floaty hair, clothes and stretched-face antics necessary? Personally I don’t think so.

Since you lay so much stress on it, I have to point out that Mama was indeed a man in a suit — Javier Botet, a tall Spanish contortionist who can actually do things like running while bent over backward. (Only the hair was CGI.) You can google pics of him in make-up, including a few of him getting frisky with Jessica Chastain.

A competent review with a few grammar glitches and to many “Justs”.
The phrase is ‘blind sided’ not blind sighted.
Mr. Gonsalves does a fine job of laying out the plot without tedious explanation and states his pros and cons well.
This review helped me decide not to watch the movie as I would be disappointed. I didn’t think a film could do justice to the book when a big star and a huge budget was involved.
I give this review a nine out of ten, one point subtracted because of grammar and syntax.

I saw this at the Fantasy Film Festival in Germany this summer and was very disappointed – too slow to get going, too silly to be horror, and then just a rush of stuff and what’s that, a tsunami? If it hadn’t been so irritating I would agree: forgettable.

Quality review… you’re right though. I should’ve used that machete more often.

Just to note – I didn’t actually write the part for myself it’s just that the guy who was doing it dropped out and we had three days before shooting so unfortunately the film had a rather “portly” hero.

Still I think it’s a very fair review. I’d have given it 1.5 stars personally

Definitely worth a rewatch from me then. Perhaps I was in the wrong mood / frame of mind for this, but whatever the case I just wasn’t pulled in or captivated by it at the time.
